The case of MAC BLACK TIED

September 6, 2009 10:03 pm · Posted by adorebeauty06

So did i? NO! I went down today and met with a much friendlier mac staff, approached her and she took the time to explain to me that the eyeshadow finishes allows it to be that way. Black tied have a VELVET finish. And she explained that the eyeshadow have to be packed on and now swipe across the lid. She took her 239 brush, took the displayed black tied and pack the colours at the back of her hand, and yes i have to say, the colour did builds up. She said that i could nbot compare it to satin or matte finish which is smoother. So i was wrong. I was thankful that she explained it to me so that I learnt that different eyeshadow produces different quality. So moral of the story? DONT GET BLACK TIED. haha! So i went back, pack the colours on and ok, was rather satisfied..haha!What else did i get?

SUPER GREAT STEAL! You girls better head down quick before the promotion is out. The colours are very limited though. But worth checking out. The other eyeshadow, dayah wanted to give his mommy though. So i got this one for $10 only! Great highlight colour. And smooth too. THATS WAT IM TALKING ABOUT!

So what's your latest haul??

I knew about the texture... but sometimes when you swatching their matte eyeshadows.. they all have different payoff... kinda like my carbon and Prussian

Carbon the payoff not really great have to build up (but I do notice when you blend the shadow on the lid.. the more you blend the darker the black become.... Where Prussian(also a matte shade... man the color pay off was so wonderful intense!)

SO after reading this.. I go check the labels... turn out Prussian is matte2 and Carbon is matte (So matte texture got 2 different payoff???? Kinda confusing right? lolx)

lol! YesI totally agree! MAC has a BIG variety of textures so it gets very confusing. I had to tonnes of "researching" to understand their various textures a little better. :P Matte2 and Matte are 2 different texture and from the reviews, it seem like Matte2 e/s generally have very good colour payoff, more so than their matte ones. Most of the matte e/s have to be packed on to reach a certain intensity but matte definitely have better colour payoff than velvet, in my opinion. Lol. :P

think matte2 is kind of like an old collection way back in the past, much like how cremesheen lipsticks used to be launched and now is part of the permanent collection. not sure how different matte2 is different from matte finishes though. I have copperplate, poison pen, all matte2.. and i usually just use them for blending, but I have seen tutorials (WSITN) using them as super true and opaque lid colors.
my fave mac finishes tend to be satin and veluxe pearl.

Here are some reference videos if you want to learn more about MAC eyeshadow finishes. I certainly understood them a lot better after watching it (:

I find that the SATIN and VELVET finishes are the hardest to work with - i actually forego some e/s even tho the colours are sooo pretty. Of course, nothing beats the frosts, veluxe pearls and starflash finishes! oh, and stila e/s - like butter!

Hah, yes, welcome to the wide world of MAC! Millions of finishes, it seems - some are even limited edition (Starflash, I'm looking at you!) Who else would come up with the idea of a LE texture?

I personally find that lustre finish is the hardest to work with, though - and anything with sparkles, like Black Tied. (Which I very thankfully don't own! :-p ) Of the other velvets I've owned, I *hated* Bitter (so much that I gave it away!), and I *love* Sable, and several LE shades as well. So it's hit and miss - don't swear off any of the finishes just yet!
